The British operations in Mesopotamia at the beginning of the

week seemed very promising, and it looked as if General Aylmer, who commands the force which is proceeding to the relief of Kut-el-Amara, would very soon have accomplished his task. Unfortunately, however, a spell of very bad weather has made it impossible for him to proceed for the present. The check is no doubt only temporary, but it is very annoying. Meanwhile there is no reason to fear that our troops at Kut-el- Amara are in any serious danger.
