- It is exasperating to reflect that the future should
be so clouded and perilous just when it is plain to everybody in this country that all the difficulties could be settled if only reason prevailed: Great Britain is heroically leading the way in a grand scheme of appeasement which would get rid of all superfluous obligations impcised on the Chinese by the ". unequal Treaties." If the Chinese leaders were to sit round a table to-morrow with the representatives of Great Britain and the United States they would -find that there was a willingness to grant every point which they could reasonably demand.
