More Serious
SIR,—1 am sure that Mr: Christopher Booker meant no harm last week when he dragged me into what appeared to be an attack on the Editor of the Daily Express. But he really has got the whole thing wrong. I did not leave the Express, as Mr. Booker implies, because of an alleged atmosphere of bitterness, temper and megalomania. There was no such atmo- sphere. 1 left because I felt it was about time I worked for a more serious newspaper with an editorial policy I could support. I cannot speak for Mr. Peter Baker, but I feel sure that Mr. Douglas- Home left the Express for very similar reasons. There was no personal bitterness either in my case or in Mr. Douglas-Home's.
