To the Dogs
SIR,—As the Secretary of the National Greyhound Racing Society did me the honour of reading my article on dog racing (January 8) he might have read it a second time. I stated that rigging took place only at 'third-rate tracks' and that at quality tracks 'very stringent precautions are taken.' I certainly had no intention of hinting that irregularities were likely at any member track of his admirable society. The point I was making was that—like it or not— three in four people believe that all dog racing is crooked.
Mr. Underhill's offer of assistance was too kind. What a pity that when I went to his office before Christmas. after I had waited twenty-five minutes 1 was asked if I could come back next month.
