The mugshot question
Sir: A.R. Evans's letter urging you to print photographs of your regular contributors (15 June) and your invitation to comment will, no doubt, generate a considerable response. I assume that his list of compar- isons was designed to encourage your con- tributors to press for the innovation — the real Mary Killen not least.
While pictures of your regular female contributors could well be a plus in circula- tion terms, I tell myself that it is their minds that attract us. Therefore, as serious read- ers of a serious publication, pictures would `The price was bloody ridiculous, too.' seem to be an unnecessary distraction. However, I could be persuaded to change my mind as the debate rages.
Perhaps we need to see a gallery of mugshots first!
