The Arago arrived at Southampton last night with advice*, from
New York to the 9th instant. The intelligence brought by this ship is of little importance. The State Democratic Convention of Philadelphia has named Mr. Buchanan as its candidate for the President's chair. Mr. Fillmore is understood to be the choice of the Know-nothings. It is stated that the British Government some time since intimated to Mr. Marcy that British subjects in Central America had claimed protection; and that " a large British squadron is understood to be on its way fron. England to Central America." (?)
