TELLING THE WORLD
SIR,—I sat, in my youth, at the feet of Sydney and Beatrice Webb, and also joined the ILP, but I was always taught to be at least reasonably courteous to political opponents, and to make sure of facts before rushing into print. Apparently Michael Sissons has never learned either.
He admits his concern with the 'Welfare State' is based on what he gets out of it for nothing. One can only hope that the British State charity which has permitted him to go as a parasite to an American university will soon dry up. Meantime his fellow students (many working their way through college) will doubtless disillusion him in that land of Free Enterprise on the popularity of his views, the extent of his knowledge, and even his manners.—Yours fully, 186 Hamstead Road, Birmingham 20 NORMAN TIPTAFT
