Happily the fever which has so long desolated GiUkaltar has
at length begun to yield to the influence of the season. Towards the close of October there had been frequent and heavy showers. The fever cases on the 21st of October were 118; but from that day they had gradually decreased, till the 5th November, when the number was only 48. The number of deaths had not, however, diminished in the same proportion. Mr. Herman, the chief me- dical officer, had died ; and at the latest date, other medical gen- tlemen expected from England had not arrived. The malady has proved so fatal to the troops, that Government are sending away reinforcements to the garrison.
