Big brother
From Miss D. Vigne Smith
Sir: So the Trades Union Conference has shown that the leadership has "come to its senses" and that "moderation and responsibility shall prevail to save the national economy", also that "organised labour is patriotically prepared to put the welfare of Britain first", etc, etc.
Has it?
It seems far more probable that this saintly change of heart is in the interests of safeguarding the life of Mr Wilson's shaky administration and the achievement of a "fully Socialist State" by the next election.
By then Big Brother could be the sole employer of labour and everybody would be state pensioners (i.e. Socialist party pensioners), also polling booths (if any) could be successfully picketed.
Is not this a more likely explanation than "moderation, responsibility and patriotism" in the interests of democracy?
