The members of Legislative Councils in Africa, most of them
black and many of them ruling Chiefs, who came here for the con- ference called by the Colonial Secretary last month, have been visiting various parts of England since the conference ended ; very few of them have been in this country before. On the way back from a visit to Windsor one of the Africans said to another, "You are very quiet." " Yes," came the reply, " I am thinking." " What are you thinking about? " " I am thinking that I know now why the English win all their battles, when they have such a country to fight for and to die for." This happened ; and it is worth recording.
