[To THE EDITOR OF THE "SPECTATOR."]
Sia,—The following epitaph, copied from a stone in Shotteswell Churchyard, may possibly be of interest to some of your readers.. The date is 1771 :—
"This world's a city,
Full of crooked streets, And death's the market-place Where all men meet.
Was life a merchandise That men could buy, The rich would always live, The poor mast die."
—I am, Sir, &c., C. T. BEIDE.
Shotteswell Vicarage, Banbury, 1884.
