REPULSIVE ADVERTISEMENTS.

SIE,—You are no doubt familiar with the enclosed advertisements. I am writing to ask if you can in any way help to protect the public against being constantly offended by their insertion, not only among other advertisements, but actually between the letter- press of decent periodicals. I cannot believe that the picture of a leering fop can induce any one, however depraved his taste, to buy whisky, however good. In peace time these pictures would be offensive and repulsive enough, but now—they are unspeakable. I feel sure that a large proportion of the public has the same repugnance to them as I have; but we are quite helpless in the matter. Can you do anything P—I am, Sir, &c.,
