RATIONALIZING INDUSTRIES.
Slowly but surely indications increase of more cheerful prospects for some of our staple industries. I referred recently in these columns to the important development in connexion with preparations for the manufacture of Bessemer steel in this country, and during the past week it has been announced that the Lancashire Steel Corporation has acquired the well-known firm of Whitecross Company of Warrington. The acquisition may be regarded as a continuance of the scheme of rationalization in the Lancashire steel industry which was begun some two years ago by the
