Stanford.)—It is stated in the preface that this volume is, in common with the excellent series to which it belongs, primarily based upon Mr. Keane's translation of Von Hellsvald's "Die Erde and ihre Volker ;" but the alterations made, the fresh matter added, and the numerous maps and illustra- tions with which it is furnished make it equal to a new or original work, and add to its usefulness and value.
