The question which is the most desirable place for the
next Imperial Conference, due next year, is being discussed in the Pram throughout the Empire. The cape Times has
quite rightly been drawing attention to the fact that Cape Town has as good a claim as any place to be regarded as the geographical oentre of the British Commonwealth and urges that the next gathering be held there. The idea deserves con- sideration. There would be nothing new in holding the Imperial Conference outside Great Britain, for we have the precedent of the Ottawa Conference in 1894. From the point of view of the convenience of the delegates from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa there is everything in favour of Cape Town. From the British standpoint it would be all to the good if several leading British statesmen could spend their summer holidays next year in Cane Town absorbing some of the " atmosphere " of the Dominions. The ultimate ideal for the Imperial Conference would seem to be that of a movable gathering to be held in succession in all the capitals. With modern rapid transport facilities that ideal does not seem so impracticable as it did a generation ago.
