That £50 Allowance SIR,—Perhaps ironically, absence abroad has delayed this
note of a,- ,a cciation of the article 'Plea for a Fuss' (September 2). Apart from the fact that the re- strictions appear to violate our IMF obligations, two further points deserve mention.
To have the 'poor' English traveller (in non-ster- ling-area countries) again looked down upon for his enforced economies is no way to restore confidence in the future of sterling. Secondly, it would be in- teresting to hear from Mr Wilson the real reason for reducing to £7 a day the health allowance which has for long remained at £10 a day, in spite of rising costs in countries abroad. The estimated saving from this cruel restriction must surely be quite insigni- ficant.
