Civic pride is a splendid thing, and their magistrates' verdict on Cain's Book must bring some balm to the burghers of Sheffield. It may have been said of them that their police beat up suspects, or that their footballers took bribes to fix matches, but while their guardians have breath to condemn it shall not be said that they read doubtful books. Pity there is to be an appeal.
