ETON WAR MEMORIAL (TO THE EDITOR OF THE " SPECTATOR.'']
Sin,—We ask our brother-Etonians to subscribe to a Fund in memory of their schoolfellows who have given their lives for their country. The chief object of the Fund will he to enable the sons of fallen Etonians to be educated, like their fathers, at Eton.
ccordingly we propose that, after providing for a permanent and
isibls record at Eton of those who have fallen, a capital sum should be set apart for the above purpose. When, by the allocation el a sufficient amount, that purpose is fulfilled, the surplus would bo devoted to the creation of an Endowment Fund to help Old Iltonians, who could not otherwise afford it, to provide an Eton education for their sons, or to some other similar object to be hereafter determined. The administration of the Fund will be vested in a Committee representative of the Provost and Fellows end of Old Etonians. A large sum will be required; the College have undertaken to contribute to the Fund; and it is hoped to raise at least 2100,000. A circular letter, giving full details, will shortly be sent to all Old Etonians, as far as possible.—We are,
Sir, &c., ARTHUR. CATAN.
ALEXANDER OF TECH. JAMES W. LOWTHER.
LANSDOWNE. ARTHUR JAMES BALFOUR.
