net.)—This story, though coloured by race prejudice and overweighted by the tremendous quotation from Oedipus on the title-page, is an interesting study in temperament. Steyn believes hithself to be the legitimate son of a man lie dislikes and despises. He shows signs of becoming like him. Then he discovers that he is the ille- gitimate son of a very different kind of man, and all is well.
