The new. session of the Indian Legislative Council at Delhi
was opened on Tuesday by Lord Reading. The Viceroy gave a long and interesting review of the whole- Indian situation. On the economic side he•was optimistic.• The 'Budgetary position will; it seems, be much more favourable next year than could have been hoped for, and there are real signs of trade revival. The staple crops are very promising and internal trade is growing, as is. indicated by increased railway receipts.. A welcome_ featureof Lord Reading's speech was the intimation that he would seek powers to increase the volume of cur- rency in the country in order to meet this revival in trade.
