Sir: In order to clear up any misunderstanding on the
part of Mr Peter Townsend (Letters, 17 January) or of others, I should like to restate my position in words (so to speak) of one syllable: There is at present some reason to suppose that continued coloured immigration could make for serious civil disturbance. If, on care- ful inquiry, we find such disturbance to be prob- able, then let there be an end, at least for the time being, of coloured immigration.
