In the House of Commons on Tuesday Mr. Asquith made
a statement in regard to the finance of the war. The total amount of money voted since last August was £1,012,000,000. The daily expenditure, he went on to point out, now some- what exceeded three millions. In dealing with the tendencies at work on future expenditure, the Prime Minister made a statement of no small importance. "One fact in particular bad to be always borne in mind, and that was that the item of advances to allies may grow with the adhesion to our cause of States which did not take part in the war in its earlier stages."
