The principal benefit concerts have been Mr. John Parry's, on
Monday evening; Madame Sala's on Wednesday morning; Messrs. Blagrove's and Mrs. Schwab's, on Wednesday evening.
The celebrated pianist M. Chopin gave a matinde on Friday, at the re- sidence of Mrs. Sartoris. Chopin is one of the greatest masters of his in- strument, as well as composers for it. His music is of immense difficulty, not only from the originality of its style, but from the very peculiar methods of fingering which he adopts. Hence it has not as yet come into general use, even among great professional players; but his ideas are frequently most striking and beautiful when M. Chopin himself is their interpreter.
