CHEERFUL MARKETS. _

MOST of the influences operating on the Stock Markets during the past week have been of a favourable character. Of the influences perhaps the most important has been the continued cheapness of money, which, together with the terms of the new Government Loan—to _which I refer elsewhere—has occa- sioned a further general advance in British Funds and kindred securities, and many of the Government stocks have established fresh high record priCes. The rumours as to the possibility of a four-Power Pact coming at a moment when the Dire armament Conference looked like breaking down also stimulated markets, white a greater feeling of hopefulness concerning the situation in the United States was also not without its effect.
