Marxist citadel
Sir: What's this Roy Kerridge is writing?
`At one time, a district was represented in Parliament, not a collection of anonymous individuals. The member for Bradford once thought of Wool. Now he just has woolly thoughts...' (Thoughts on politics', 17 February).
Hang on, that rings a bell.
`We will represent Baku as oil . . . we will represent the Donetz coal basin as coal.... What is the real interest of the country districts? It is not storekeeping. It is not money-lending. It is agriculture. From our country districts our Soviets of peasants will send representatives chosen by agriculture to speak for agriculture' (Lenin, 1917).
Is there a Marxist citadel as yet un- stormed in Doughty Street?
