FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF ARTISTS, HISTORIANS, MUSICIANS AND PHILOSOPHERS. (OR, AS WE CALL THEM, YOUR TOUR LEADERS.)

ON a Martin Randall Travel tour you are led by lecturers rather than guides.

The term ‘lecturers’ emphasises their primary role. They are also ‘tour leaders’ because they are in charge of the tour, even when accompanied by a tour manager. However, they are not guides in the conventional sense – though some of what they do might constitute guiding – because being professional academics and curators, the nature of the information they supply is quite different.

Nor are they recruited exclusively from university departments. In addition to our Assyriologists and Egyptologists, we have conductors, novelists, architects, diplomats and opera producers leading the tours.

The breadth of their interests is another recommendation. (Our expert on the Baltic States, for example, is also one of the contributors to the Blue Guide to China.) Although our lecturers’ scholarship is unimpeachable, their ability to communicate their learning is equally important. Each of our hundred or so experts can be relied on to enlighten and stimulate, not merely to inform.

Just as crucial (because this is, after all, a holiday), they are good travelling companions, and are dependable when it comes to practical matters too.

As you may have gathered by now, Martin Randall Travel tours are designed for people with enquiring minds and a desire to learn, understand and appreciate.

(Which is why, in addition to providing a specialist to accompany you on your holiday, we often supply a reading list in case you wish to immerse yourself before the tour starts. You can relax, however; there’s no exam at the end.) You’ll find that the tours themselves are meticulously planned to ensure a smooth-running, well-paced and enjoyable experience. The numbers in each group are strictly limited to between 7 and 22 participants. This makes everything more manageable, increases social cohesion and at the same time allows everyone greater access to the lecturer.

This is how one recent client put it: “The lecturers I have met have been superb, combining humour, professional wit, deep understanding and knowledge with a human touch which makes their delivery exciting and accessible to all.” It seems others have been impressed too, as we have been named AITO Travel Company of the Year for 2008.

If this sounds like the kind of holiday that would appeal to you, why not visit martinrandall.com or call 020 8742 3355 to request one of our famous brochures?

We hope you might discover why so many of our clients retrace their steps and rebook with us year after year.
