Clarity of compression
From Godfrey Carey, QC Sir; Does not the succinct clarity of the article by Oxford's professor of classical literature (`East is East and West is West', 27 October) emphasise the need for the restoration of the classics to our educational system, and to dialogue in our courts of law? The professor encapsulated in two pages of your magazine several millennia of history, essential to understanding these turbulent times. The utterances of those who try to end the turbulence lack a comparable clarity and succinctness.
