King Peter of Servia was crowned in Belgrade on Wednes-
day, the ceremony passing off without any "untoward inci- dent." It was expected that he would be shot at while proceeding from the Palace to the Cathedral, but he was not. The weather, however, was unpropitious, the Great Powers sent no special representatives, and the King himself, either from agitation or positive ill-health—he is sixty—was hardly able to perform his part, nearly fainting, for example, in the Cathedral from the weight of the crown, which he was at last obliged to take off. He was well guarded by the officers most deeply implicated in the murder of King Alexander and Queen Draga ; but observers present report many "omens" which Servians interpret unfavourably. In particular, while the insignia were being taken into the Cathedral the Royal Standard fell down.
