ST. MONACELLA'S LA.M.BS.

SIR,—Tennant, in one of his tours in Wales, paid his devotions to the shrine of St. Monacella, "or, as the Welsh style her, Melangoll." Writing in or about the year 1780, he says (after relating the legend),—" Till the last century, so strong a superstition prevailed that no person would kill a hare in the parish; and even later, when a hare was pursued by dogs, it was firmly believed that if anyone cried, 'God Sand St. Monacella be with thee,' it was sure to escape." Even now, according to Mr. A. Gray's informant, "the labourers believe."—I am, Sir, &c.
