POINTS FROM LETTERS
AMERICAN BLIGHT ON Fiturr TREES.
I should be glad if any reader could advise me how to treat apple trees which are attacked by, I believe, this trouble. I have gone over, with a brush dipped in paraffin oil, the parts showing white " frost " or " cotton wool," but dare not, use the spray while the fruit is on the trees, lest the taste of the oil should get into the apples. At what time of the year ought the remedy to be 'applied ? Out of five trees in my garden, three are attacked, although such fruit as escaped the frost early this year is very fine.— WILLIAM BRAMWELL, 50 Lune Street, Preston.
" CHEYNE."
Can you or any of your readers tell me what is the correct pronunciation of the word " Cheyne," vide Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, and what is the origin of the name as given to this Walk ?—A. G. MuLuxs, St. Mary's Lodge, Exmouth.
