The polling in the Everton division of Liverpool, which took
place on Wednesday, resulted as follows :—Mr. Banner (C.), 3,854; Mr. Aggs (L.), 2,543; Conservative majority, 1,311. In 1892 the Conservative majority was 1,789. Since then the Conservative has been returned unopposed. The result has been hailed as a Protectionist victory, and as proving conclusively that there are places in England in which Protectionists can keep and carry seats. No doubt. Not even the most optimistic Free-trader imagines that there will be no Chamberlainite.s or Balfourites in the next Parliament.
