From Mr Michael Carreck Sir: As Marcus Berkmann remarked (Arts, 12 August), perhaps more truly than he knew, the actress Calista Flockhart who plays Ally McBeal is most certainly `absurdly named'. 'Calista' is Portuguese for 'chiropodist'.
