An important educational meeting at Exeter, on the 16th instant,

is re- ported in the Morning Chronicle. It was a conference of gentlemen from most of the towns in the county, principally in the Dissenting interests. The conference adopted a report which described the existing means of po- pular education as totally inadequate. The speakers generally expressed a strong feeling in favour of the system used by the British and Foreign School Society ; whose Secretary, Mr H. Dunn, was present and made an expository speech. The question of accepting Government aid or not was discussed with much earnestness, candour, and temperance; and on the whole the feeling seemed to lie in favour of accepting; but the question was adjourned for further consideration to a subsequent meeting of the con- ference.
