Ramsey in lions' den
Sir: It is somewhat unusual for an Archbishop of Canterbury to be the 'darling of the Left', and it may be unwise to underestimate the weight of opinion against Dr Ram- sey in his moves to prevent the sale of arms to South Africa.
Was this latest archiepiscopal safari really necessary, anyway; and as for his `grim' meeting with Dr Vorster, was it not sufficient for Daniel to enter the den of lions without the additional performance of putting his head into the lion's mouth?
Mr Fendall, in the SPECTATOR (19 December), refers to 'things which are worthy of the Arch- bishop's attention'. I can think of several crying out for it—the moral state of this country, poor housing conditions, the Ulster problem etc. It would be a refreshing change if, instead of getting involved in party and international politics, he would unequivocally condemn as immoral all strike action affecting the health and lives of his fellow country- men!
