Italian newspapers state that Japanese ships of war have arrived

in the Mediterranean, having with them many aircraft. It is to be remembered that two Japanese merchantmen have been sunk in the Mediterranean. It would be natural, there- fore, for the Japanese to want to guard a very important part of their trade routes. American papers some 'weeks ago spoke of three Japanese cruisers as being assigned to this service.
