Siegmund's ringlets

Sir: That earnest young chap, Rupert Christiansen, is, of course, entitled to think I looked a 'wally' in my 'silly wig', when singing Siegmund in the City of Birming- ham Touring Opera's Ring Saga (Opera, 5 January) but vanity compels me to point out that I spent six months growing my own (naturally blond and lustrously flow- ing) locks of which I'm rather proud. However, there was a mezzo soprano at Glyndebourne some years ago who was described by a critic as wearing a 'wrinkled body stocking' when she was, in fact, naked, so I suppose I got off quite lightly.
