The effect of these appointments, however, is not limited to
in- dividuals; they tell against the Ministry to an extent which may not have been anticipated by those who schemed the harmless- looking exchanges. One, the elevation of Sir JOHN CAMPBELL to the Irish Chancery, seems calculated to have the very worst effect : it has stung all parties in Ireland with a sense of injury ; and, if the electioneering matters there are not quite settled, it may yet have a depressing influence on the returns.
