(Copy) A PROTEST TO THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES. To THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED
STATES : We, the undersigned members of the Faculty of Yale Univer- sity, are inalterably opposed •to any interference by an outside nation with our domestic affairs, and we are equally opposed to any attempt on the part of our own Government to interfere with the domestic affairs of any other friendly nation. We protest, in particular, against any Congressional resolutions, or items in political platforms, touching upon the relations of Great Britain and Ireland. We ourselves deeply resented pro- posals of foreign interference in our domestic affairs during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865, and we should not fail to act in the present instance with the propriety that we then required of other nations.
