Expo 67 and all that

Sir: I have read much on our world exhibition Expo 67 and Mr Strong in his article 'Expo 67 and all that' (12 May) seems to be the only writer, so far anyway, to be displeased with it. It is evident that this gentleman did not enjoy our exhibition, and I agree with him—a fair certainly is not a wonderful thing when it is half completed!

Mr Strong, we are still a young country (just one hundred years old), so for goodness' sake let us have our 'fling.' We are so new in this cultural matter, and Expo is really our first chance to show our life and the way we are truly Canadian, not American or British, but Canadian. Simply because our Canadian culture is different to your British, do not condemn it for its new- ness and difference. In short, Mr Strong, you are trampling us down simply because we cannot match up to your 'superior' English culture.

Sir, if these are your feelings about my country and finally her chance to shine, may I suggest you return to mid-Victorian England, for this, I be- lieve, is a place where you would be extremely happy, away from a progressing world.
