LETTERS Topsy Turville

Sir: I write to comment on 'A little local difficulty' (13 August). In that article, Mr Jeremy Paxman attacked the PCC for upholding the right of Mr Alistair Home to express his views about the proposed use of redundant church school buildings in his village of Turville as holiday accommoda- tion for inner-city children. Mr Paxman admits that the village is in the thrall of a `rancorous dispute' over the project, but inaccurately tells your readers that the Commission decided that Mr Alistair Home's view is correct. The PCC reached no such conclusion. It simply said that Mr Home was entitled to voice his opinions and sided with the right to free expression of any named writer or columnist — a freedom from which Mr Paxman will no doubt continue to benefit.

If anyone complains about Mr Paxman, he can be sure he will receive the same treatment.
