Seven to Seventeen, or Veronica Gordon. By M. M. Bell.
(Warne.)— This is a pretty little story of a child whom her father brings home from India, and places in the care of an old friend of her mother's. The character of this old friend, especially the jealousy with which she guards and would fain keep to herself the child's love, is well drawn. This is indeed the most distinct piece of description in the book, but the whole of it shows cleverness in the writer, and a talent for making the figures of her little drama look as if they were alive.
We have also received Letts's Pocket Diary and Atmanack, in a leather case; and the same publishers' No. 37 Universal Diary, 1874, with an almanack, in a large quarto size, very useful for housekeepers.
