It was announced yesterday week that a site had been
acquired in Bloomsbury for the Shakespeare Memorial National Theatre. The most serious objection to the Bloomsbury site is that it lies quite outside theatre-land, and that no theatre thus handicapped has ever enjoyed continuous prosperity. As against the geographical drawback, it is urged that the price—E150,000—is moderate ; that the space is ample ; and finally, that the site is in the centre of a district which is likely to gain greatly in dignity and importance by the process of development now going on.
