The poll for the election of Chancellor closed in Cambridge
University, today, at noon. The final numbers were—For Prince Albert, 953; Earl Pelvis, 887; majority for the Prince, 116.
This poll is said to be the largest on record. The total number polled is 1,790. In 1811, when the Duke of Gloucester was elected, the numbers were—For the Doke of Gloucester, 468; Duke of Rutland, 351; total, 819. And in the noted contest for the High Stewardship, in 1840, the numbers were—For Lord. Lynd- hurst, 923; Lord Lyttelton, 457; total, 1380.
