A GUIDE TO ENGLISH GOTHIC ARCHITECTURE. By S. Gardner. (Cambridge
University Press. 16s.) Mr. S. Gardner has produced an attractive architectural guide consisting—as it should—mostly of photographs both of details, typical or exceptional, and also of representative buildings in mass. For this latter purpose especially it would have been well had more attention been paid to secular building, as there are certainly those who are constitutionally unable to enjoy ecclesiastical work with the same zest as domestic examples of the same quality. None the less, the book is one to engage the interest of all who are in any way architecturally-minded.
