Fairlie's lyrical description of the new Cabinet makes the reader wonder why we had to wait ten years for it. Was it the obstinacy or stupidity of the leader? (Not that we would want him sacrificed to the ambition of the ex-Home Secretary whose chief achievements have been the introduction to this country of the one-armed bandit and the surrender of the prostitutes to organised underground merchants.) Mr. Fairlie's welcome to the new Cabinet is on the grounds of its almost unalloyed liberalism. Fine: this will help many of us finally to make up our minds to join the Liberal Party which will take many years to develop a Nabarro wing,
