Cruelty to frogs
Sir: I was sorry to read Nigella Lawson's gushing praise of the frogs' legs available in the brasserie she was recommending (13 July). Has she any idea of the revolting cruelty involved in the slaughter of these animals, mainly from Asia, and the dam- age wrought to the ecology of India due to unchecked pests, the frogs' natural prey? One hopes that the EEC will take action to prohibit the imports of these animals. In the meantime Spectator readers of normal sensitivities will eschew restaurants which purvey these frogs.
