Maize. By J. Burtt-Davy. (Longmont/ and Co. 25e. net.) —In
this portly volume one of the most important food-grains of the world is studied with great thoroughness. The author is a botanist and agricultural expert in the service of the South African Department of Agriculture, and wrote his book last year whilst he was carrying on some researches at the Cam- bridge School of Agriculture. He has borne in mind the needs alike of farmers and students, and we should think that he can have omitted nothing of importance which bears on the cultivation, handling, uses, and history of what our American cousins describe as "corn" par excellence.
