As we go to press on Thursday evening comes the
news that Mr. Asquith has announced that Mr. Lloyd George, at the unanimous request of his colleagues, is to act as mediator between the various Irish parties. Clearly the first need is silence. Negotiations so delicate must fail if conducted under volleys of recrimination. We will only say of the task before Mr. Lloyd George—" Heaven grant he may accomplish it 1"
