The Week in Parliament Our Parliamentary Correspondent writes : It
is not too much to say that Dr. Dalton's speech on Wednesday, when he moved the Labour motion calling for an enquiry into the state of our air defences, was the most formidable attack made from the front Opposition bench in this Parliament. His style is simple and unadorned, and he always gives the impression of being the complete master of his subject. On this occasion he had been supplied with ample material. Naturally, he could not, in most cases, give the sources of his information, but the House was none the less impressed by his disclosures. He was able to present a most alarming picture of muddle, incompetence and delay. Following upon the Liberal criticisms of a fortnight ago, the case against both the Air Ministry and our present methods of supplying its needs seemed overwhelming. Had it not been for the recent change of Ministers, and the natural desire of the Conservatives to give Sir Kingsley Wood every chance in his new office, the Government would have been in very serious difficulties.
