The Odyssey of Homer, Book ix. With Introduction, Notes, and
Appendices. Edited by G. M. Edwards, M.A. (Cambridge University Press.)—The chief value of this book consists in its introduction and appendices. The notes are good and scholarly enough, but there is little in them that has not been said before. In his remarks on Homeric forms and the appendices which deal with points of syntax, Mr. Edwards is excellent. He is, as he says in his preface, greatly indebted to Mr. Monro's "Homeric Grammar" But Mr. Monro's book is not one adapted for schoolboys. Very few of them would take the trouble to use it, and those who did would probably experience some difficulty in finding what they wanted. In view of this, Mr. Edwards has put his remarks in a concise and simple form. The book should prove very useful for school work.
